Man United tipped to sign £21k per week Jean Todibo as defensive reinforce

Manchester United's list of potential transfer targets has kept growing after the opening of the summer transfer window on Wednesday.

Erik Ten Hag's side is keen on revamping and strengthening their squad in anticipation of a possible league title chase and a competitive return to the Champions League next campaign.

Several potential deals are being processed behind the scenes, although nothing substantial has been released by the media or officially by the club. Yet still, the Red Devils are being linked with several players across Europe.

One area Erik Ten Hag is looking to invest in next season is the defense; although a striker is the team's priority in the transfer market, the defensive department is calling for a needed touch.

Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzenbe have officially departed the club, and Harry Maguire could follow suit. Kim Min Jae and Axel Disasi are being weighed as possible replacements, but a new defender has been linked with Old Trafford.

Footballfancast believes Manchester United might have set their sights on OGC Nice's 23-year-old defender, Jean Clair Todibo, via transfer journalist Dean Jones.

"Understand that Newcastle, Manchester United, and Liverpool scouts were in attendance at the Nice-Rennes game to monitor Jean-Clair Todibo. French center back could get a top club move in the summer—with a price tag understood to be around €45m," transfer guru Fabrizio Romano also claimed in a tweet in May.

L'Equip also reported a similar story, stating that the aforementioned Premier League clubs, as well as Napoli and Juventus, are monitoring the young defender.

The former FC Barcelona youth player is allegedly considering his options as he could make a potential career move next season. The reason is because he is open to taking on a new career challenge.

According to reports in Nice-Martin, a French outlet reported that Ligue 1 giant Paris Saint-Germain are also showing a considerable level of interest in the £21,000-per-week star.

However, AS Monaco's Axel Disasi and Napoli's Kim Min Jae are already in the picture, and Old Trafford faithfuls are seriously anticipating their arrivals, especially Kim Min Jae. But transfer journalist Dean Jones claims Jean Clair Todibo can as well 'come into the equation'.

Jones told FFC when asked about Manchester United's interest in Todibo, Kim, and Disasi: "Both players that have been scouted throughout the season [Kim Min-jae and Axel Disasi], I think Todibo as well in Ligue 1 has been looked at, so there's another name that potentially could come into the equation."

Manchester United are being tipped to make a move for the Cayenne-born defender. He had an excellent season with Nice and will be looking to take up a tougher challenge by jumping ship for a bigger club and league.

He made 46 appearances for OGC Nice across all competitions last season, as per Transfermarkt, and he was ever present.

WhoScored also shows that Todibo has excellent awareness of dangerous attacking situations and has managed to complete an average of 3.1 clearances per match in the French top-flight this term.

Footballfancast claimed that the 23-year-old received massive praise from German legend Lothar Matthaus, who stated: "Todibo is the best center back I’ve seen in a long time.".

The French star was also solid in the tackle across the campaign and obtained an impressive challenge success ratio of 72.3%, according to FBRef.

Erik Ten Hag will not want to pass up a chance to sign the 23-year-old, and Manchester United's fans will fall in love with his consistency and further improvements in the future.
