While Mason Mount's future continues to look like it's away from Stamford Bridge, his teammate and Chelsea's left back, Ben Chilwell, has urged him to stay back with the London club.
Transfer Journalist Fabrizio Romano recently updated us on Manchester United's chase of the 24-year-old Chelsea academy graduate.
"Manchester United have sent messages to Mason Mount confirming their intention to insist in the next few days. Personal terms are not an issue as players are keen on the move. 🔴 #MUFC
Chelsea keep asking for an €80 million fee; this is why the deal was not progressing this week, but it’s not over," Romano claimed.
Reports from last month allegedly claimed that the Red Devils have already reached agreement on personal terms with the England midfielder, but the conclusion is that the transfer is being stalled by Chelsea's transfer demand. Manchester United are only ready to pay €30 million less than the Blues asking price.
Ben Jacobs of GiveMeSport is convinced Manchester United will not pay anything beyond €50 million. With Mason Mount entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge next month and Chelsea in need of balancing their books to align with the Financial Fair Play rule, the Blues might have no choice but to accept United's offer for the 24-year-old.
Some of the England international's teammates have hinted at their displeasure with the player's potential exit.
His close pal at Stamford Bridge, England international Ben Chilwell, aired his frustration regarding the player's exit next summer.
"I mean, that’s none of my business personally, but I’d love him to stay. He’s my best friend, so personally, I would love for him to stay. But it’s none of my business; I can’t really comment on that," he stated via MEN.
Manchester United's signing of Mason Mount will be another of Juan Mata's master strokes. If the 24-year-old should follow in the Spaniard's footsteps, then Manchester United have a brilliant midfielder who is in his prime and will help give the squad much-needed depth both on the flank and in the midfield.
Manchester United should rather play the hard ball in their chase for Mason Mount. Paying excessively for his signature will not be a good move. He appears not ready to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge, plus Chelsea will not want to risk losing him for nothing in 2024. He already agreed to personal terms, which puts United in a better position.
However, Manchester United still have to prioritize the signing of a striker while overhauling the squad in every way necessary.
