Manchester United fans would have been a little disappointed to hear the news that Brentford's David Raya was on the verge of completing a move to Tottenham Hotspur after Fabrizio Romano confirmed it via his social media handle.
Fabrizio Romano reports: “Tottenham are now on the verge of reaching an agreement with David Raya on personal terms. Long-term contract, almost agreed after positive talks.”
However, he added that Daniel Levy still considers the £40 million price tag on the Spanish goalkeeper excessive, something Manchester United's recruitment team also concurs with, but Manchester United's not making any advances in the goalkeeper's chase could mean they have their eyes fixed on other targets.
ESPN had already tipped Manchester United to sign FC Porto's goalkeeper Diogo Costa after he was named on their transfer shortlist. Portuguese outlet Corriere de Manha reported last week that Manchester United are now "finalizing a proposal’ to sign the goalkeeper, but they have given a new update that comes with a major boost for Manchester United's plans to secure the 23-year-old shotstopper.
As per United in Focus, Corriere de Manha has claimed that Manchester United could sign FC Porto's number one for a fee less than the club's asking price of £65 million, as the Portuguese outfit is in need of funds that must be raised swiftly.
The report stated that they will need to sell players before the end of June in order to meet their financial needs.
“FC Porto should be forced to sell Diogo Costa below the value of the termination clause," the report stated.
“President Pinto da Costa has insisted on fitting in 75 million euros with the departure of the goalkeeper, but everything indicates that he will have to make a discount to close the deal by the end of this month.”
This is a major boost for Manchester United in their chase of Diogo Costa, as FC Porto's price tag has been a major hurdle, which has seen the move to the conclusion of his transfer remain stagnant.
Although there are still other goalkeeping options and targets in the upcoming transfer windows for Manchester United, Diogo Costa is the most expensive of all, according to Fabrizio Romano.
But the latest development will help them conclude the goalkeeper's transfer as soon as possible as he matches Erik Ten Hag's plans for next season.
