Goncalo Inacio 'freezes' contract extension proposal amid Premier League interests

While Manchester United are heavily linked with the signings of Napoli's Kim Min Jae and AS Monaco's Axel Disasi. The Red Devils are also being teased with the possibility of signing Sporting Lisbon's Goncalo Inacio.

The 21-year-old is being projected as Lisandro Martinez's alternative and Victor Lindelof's upgrade. Manchester United came somehow close to having a memorable first season under Erik Ten Hag, but injuries to several key figures mean their chances of finishing the season higher than expected were ruined.

Lisandro Martinez's debut season ended prematurely in March after he suffered a metatarsal injury against Sevilla in the Europa League quarterfinals and then had to undergo surgery, which ruled him out until the next campaign. Raphael Varane also got hooked off at halftime in the same game.

Both were shining lights in Manchester United's defense, and Erik Ten Hag missed their absence, although Raphael Varane returned to help them finish third at the end of the season while Victor Lindelof stepped up in Lisandro Martinez's absence. But it was never near Lisandro Martinez's aggressive defense and impeccable timing.

The people's person alleged that Manchester United are monitoring Evan Ndicka, a free agent, but as he appears to be destined for a different club, Goncalo Inacio is the next in line.

A report claims the 21-year-old has frozen the possibility of getting a contract extension proposal from Sporting CP while hoping he gets a move to the Premier League next summer. Manchester United are heavily linked with the left-footed central back, whose release clause isn't hefty.

Although Man United have to rival archrivals Liverpool for the 21-year-old, who has a release clause of £45 million, according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Sporting Lisbon is, however, aiming to increase his price tag to £60 million.

"The player would also be happy to sign on the dotted line, but only after studying the market, and would jump at the chance to move to the Premier League," the person alleged.

“Until the beginning of the work, Inácio and his representatives will assess potential interested parties, knowing that the transfer market may accelerate soon."

“Newcastle’s poll in the past did not arouse much interest in the player; PSG plans to reformulate other positions before the axis, making attention centered on the main English clubs: both Manchester United and Liverpool."

“Erik ten Hag favors the signing of a left-handed center-back, strong with the ball at his feet, and the 21-year-old Portuguese is one of the targets," the people's person asserted.

With 52 appearances for the former Bruno Fernandes team across all competitions. Goncalo Inacio scored four goals while assisting three more.

His impressive passing skills have seen him rated among the top 99 percentile for passes attempted and progressive passes by FBREF. A significant Lisandro Martinez will be instrumental for Erik Ten Hag.
