Nottingham Forest playing hard ball with Henderson's alternative as United step up Costa's chase

Manchester United have reportedly stepped up their interest in FC Porto's Diogo Costa, according to Portuguese media outlet A Bola.

Manchester United fans couldn't hide their envy after Inter Milan's goalkeeper Onana put in a display, oozing with confidence, against Manchester City in the Champions League final on Saturday night.

The 24-year-old Cameroonian shotstopper helped to dictate his team's play from the back and was great between the sticks despite the Seria A side losing 1-0 at fulltime.

Manchester United fans want exactly what Onana offers Inter at Old Trafford next season. Although there are talks of Jordan Pickford jumping ships from Everton to Manchester United, the 29-year-old certainly will not be a long-term solution compared to 24-year-old Onana.

One goalkeeper who will certainly help Manchester United play easily from the back is FC Porto's Diogo Costa, and recent reports suggest Manchester United are gearing up to negotiate with the Portuguese outfit for the 23-year-old, who is valued at around £64 million.

Diogo Costa will be a signing that will help shape Erik Ten Hag's team. He has participated for a couple of years in the Champions League and featured for the Portuguese national team at the World Cup; although he is not Premier League proven, he surely will give Erik Ten Hag's defense the much-needed confidence.

But Manchester United are operating with limited transfer funds due to the ongoing takeover saga at the club. Still, they are aiming to sanction the sale of several players who are deemed surplus or just need to be sold out.

Dean Henderson is one, but the academy graduate who spent last campaign at City Ground may have to wait for his future to be decided after he regains his fitness, as Nottingham Forest appears to be playing hard ball with the Red Devils regarding his move to City Ground on a permanent basis.

Nottingham Forest News has reported that Steve Cooper's side are monitoring Trabzonspor's Ugurcan Cakir, who would be a potential Dean Henderson alternative if they fail to reach an agreement with Manchester United for the 26-year-old England international.

Ugurcan Cakir came through the youth ranks of Trabzonspor and has 203 appearances to his name with the Turkish side, but he has been pushing for a move to bigger leagues in Europe.

Jose Mourinho's AS Roma also have eyes on the 27-year-old, according to Turkish outlet TRT Spor. Sheffield United are also showing interest, but Cakir will want a move to a top league, which gives Nottingham Forest the edge in the race for the shotstopper.

Ugurcan Cakir has also featured frequently for his country and has made 22 appearances for his country, which will boost his confidence ahead of moving to a major league.

Nottingham Forest can still be positive about signing Dean Henderson from Old Trafford, as reports claim David De Gea is close to penning a new deal that will enable Manchester United to release Dean Henderson to any potential suitor who wants him.

Steve Cooper's side are not ready to pay £20 million for the 26-year-old and are ready to play the hard ball with Manchester United, and with a contingency plan in the form of Ugurcan Cakir in place, the City Ground outfit will not be stepping up their bid for the Man United academy graduate.

However, Ugurcan Cakir, the 6-foot goalkeeper attracting strong interest from AS Roma, will put Nottingham Forest in a fierce battle with Jose Mourinho's side, in which they might lose out as the Seria A side are active in Europe.
