Man City to rival United for Benfica's Cher Ndour as Fernandes approves Ramos signing

In the race to recruit Italian wonderkid Cher Ndour from Benfica, Manchester City is expected to compete against Manchester United.

The 18-year-old midfielder, one of Europe's most exciting prospects, has already drawn interest from Erik ten Hag's team, PSG, Juventus, and AC Milan ahead of a possible summer transfer.

Ndour, who was born in Italy and progressed through the youth ranks at Atalanta, transferred to Benfica in 2020 when he was 16 years old.

At the age of 16 and 269 years old, he broke the previous record set by Joao Felix, a former star of the club who is currently on loan to Chelsea. He has excelled for Benfica's B squad.

Ndour made his debut for Benfica as a senior player back in March. He has also played for Italy at the youth level, all the way up to the Under 20 team.

And while City are eager to sign experienced talents in midfield over the summer, The Sun claims that they are also looking ahead and see the 18-year-old as a part of that future.

Ndour has been compared to Paul Pogba, his childhood hero, but he isn't said to be eager to go back to Italy and team up with the Frenchman at Juventus.

Ndour, who is 6 feet 3 inches tall, was reportedly observed by City scouts while playing for both his club team and the Italy Under 20s, according to the article. He is expected to be out of contract in the summer, so if a club were to sign him, only a training compensation fee would be due to both Benfica and Atalanta, which would make an acquisition more desirable.

Ndour has made 26 appearances for the Under 15 to Under 20 teams of The Azurri.

Ndour is one of the best young stars in Europe and typically plays in center midfield, although he is equally skilled in an offensive role.

The midfielder has made a total of 56 appearances for Benfica's B team, which competes in Portuguese football's second division, scoring five goals and dishing out one assist.

Bruno Fernandes gives Goncalo Ramos's greenlight

Goncalo Ramos of Benfica is apparently the target of a club-record offer from Manchester United, and Bruno Fernandes has already acknowledged the player's abilities.

According to The Daily Mirror, United is preparing a bid to recruit both Harry Kane of Tottenham and the Portugal player who dazzled at the World Cup in Qatar in an unprecedented double deal.

The club is reportedly looking for a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo and sees the 21-year-old as a "brilliant prospect" for the future.

Therefore, it may have been fitting that Ramos started in place of Ronaldo for Portugal's World Cup round of 16 encounter against Switzerland before scoring a hat-trick in a 6-1 victory.

After Darwin Nunez, a standout for Liverpool, moved to Anfield last summer, he took Darwin's place as Benfica's top scorer. He has 17 goals in 27 league games. Ramos, however, hasn't scored in any of his last five league starts.

However, the Portuguese striker's performances in the Champions League have also been impressive, scoring seven goals in 13 games during both qualifying and the actual competition.

And his possible teammate Fernandes has already acknowledged how valuable he could be to United.Speaking during the World Cup, the 28-year-old United vice-captain gave a list of qualities that the striker possesses.

The former Sporting Lisbon midfielder said (quotes via The Athletic): "People are not aware of the quality of the Portuguese league. Benfica have been doing really well in the Champions League, so people should be aware of Goncalo, of his qualities.

"He's a player that runs and works a lot, helps the team defensively. He's that type of striker that is everywhere."

"He had the chance to score three goals, but he's a striker that creates space for others, fights, has the ball and is strong. Today was his day to score the goals and we're happy for that."

Ramos, according to Portuguese publication Record, is "very disappointed" that Benfica has not followed through on a "contract renewal promise," which may persuade United to move quickly to recruit the striker.
