In preparation for their second preseason friendly against Lyon, Manchester United must address a few difficulties.
Andre Onana, the Inter Milan goalkeeper, is nearing a deal, but the match in Edinburgh is perhaps too soon for the new £47 million shot-stopper. It implies that Tom Heaton will probably start in net.
Heaton will probably start with Mason Mount after a solid debut against Leeds.
Casemiro, Luke Shaw, Bruno Fernandes, and Marcus Rashford—the latter of whom just signed a new contract—will also be absent from Erik ten Hag's squad due to an extended period of rest following the most recent international matches.
Fred was absent for the victory over Leeds, and it is unknown if he will return. However, Antony, Anthony Martial, Dean Henderson, and Donny van de Beek remain injured and cannot play.
Despite Bruno Fernandes' absence, Harry Maguire was relieved of his leadership over the weekend. It will be interesting to see who replaces him, although it is probable that he will play for Scotland.
Manchester United predicted XI: Heaton; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Fernandez; Mount, Hannibal, Mainoo; Sancho, Hugill, Diallo.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United and Inter Milan have finally come to an agreement on the price to transfer goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The goalkeeper's transfer paperwork has now been signed by the Red Devils and the Nerazzurri after several weeks of tense discussions.
The 27-year-old was initially wanted by Inter for €60 million, but United and Inter ultimately settled on a deal worth €55 million plus add-ons to sign the former Ajax star.
Di Marzio asserts that Onana will become a new United player by Tuesday after the paperwork is signed. It won't be long before something is formally announced.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano as well tweeted on Tuesday morning as follows: Manchester United expect André Onana to travel to UK by tonight — medical and contract signing between Wednesday & Thursday. 🔴🛩️ #MUFC
Plan to be confirmed later. More to follow.
👋🏻 Onana left Inter training ground 30 mins ago after saying goodbye.
Onana will probably go to Manchester this morning for his medical. Before the day is out, United will try to finish all the legalities.
After tomorrow's friendly against Lyon, the Red Devils depart for their preseason tour of the United States. Onana might be in the aircraft. His visa has already been requested by the club.
Onana should be a terrific addition to United because his game is a perfect fit for Erik ten Hag's.
The Cameroonian spent four and a half seasons at Ajax working under the Dutch strategist, so it might not take him long to get used to the expectations of the new manager.
But before the next campaign, he still needs to establish chemistry with the preferred back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Luke Shaw.
This ought to take at least a few games. Onana should have the perfect opportunity to build rapport with the defense during the preseason tour of the United States.
